印制板钻孔用钻头一般都采用硬质合金,因为环氧玻璃布复铜箔板对刀具的磨损特别快。所谓硬质合
金是以碳化钨粉末为基体,以钴粉作粘结剂经加压、烧结而成。通常含碳化钨94%,含钴6%。由于其硬度很高,非常耐磨,有一定强度,适于高速切削。但韧性差,非常脆,为了改善硬质合金的性能,有的采用在碳化基体上化学汽相沉积一层5~7微米的特硬碳化钛(TIC)或氮化钛(TIN),使其具有更高的硬度。有的用离子注入技术,将钛、氮、和碳注入其基体一定的深度,不但提高了硬度和强度而且在钻头重磨时这些注入成份还能内迁。还有的用物理方法在钻头顶部生成一层金刚石膜,极大的提高了钻头的硬度与耐磨性。硬质合金的硬度与强度,不仅和碳化钨与钴的配比有关,也与粉末的颗粒有关。超微细颗粒的硬质合金钻头,其碳化钨相晶粒的平均尺寸在1微米以下。这种钻头,不仅硬度高而且抗压和抗弯强度都提高了。为了节省成本现在许多钻头采用焊接柄结构,原来的钻头为整体都是硬质合金,现在后部的钻柄采用了不锈钢,成本大大下降但是由于采用不同的材质其动态的同心度不及整体硬质合金钻头,特别在小直径方面。
